During the month of April 2016, participating Houston restaurants will serve a “blue plate special” to support The Thread Alliance’s fundraiser, the 4th annual citywide child abuse prevention awareness campaign encouraging Houstonians to take action against child abuse and towards healing.
The Thread Alliance, a non-profit organization founded by Sheila Aron, is dedicated to ending the cycle of child abuse. April is National Child Abuse Prevention month. Participating restaurants will offer guests a “blue plate special” and will donate a percentage or flat dollar amount to The Thread Alliance.

The Lakewood Yacht Club presents the 21st Annual Keels & Wheels Concours D’Elegance 2016 on the weekend of April 23 – 24, including a Classic Car and Vintage Wooden Boat Show with special awards ceremonies, autograph sessions, raffle drawings, People’s Choice Ballot and so much more! This special event is designed to help raise necessary funds for local charities and non-profit organizations, including the Boys & Girls Harbor.
General admission tickets costs $25 in advance (online), $35 at entrance, and children (ages 10 and under) get in free.
HOUSTON (January 29, 2016) – Houston philanthropists and transplant patient supporters will come together on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 7 p.m. at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Houston for Nora’s Home at the Kentucky Derby Gala. The event will benefit Nora’s Home facility and programs that provide care, education, and support for transplant patients and their families. Guests are encouraged to dress in Kentucky Derby fashion or cocktail attire.
Gala Chairs Brigitte and Bashar Kalai will welcome guests with a private casino room, live entertainment, a cocktail hour and a silent auction. Guests will enjoy a Kentucky Derby-style dinner before Nora’s Home honors two Winning Circle transplant patients and their families. The 2016 Nora’s Home gala honorees are the Boudwin and Bono families, who have continuously provided leadership and support to the Nora’s Home mission.
“Nora’s Home gala is a fun filled event attended by over 600 friends of the foundation,” said Kayla Lehmann, Executive Director of Nora’s Home. “Proceeds from the evening benefit the Adopt-A-Family fund which provides financial support for families who cannot afford to pay the minimal nightly fee.”
Nora’s Home invites everyone to support and contribute to the transplant community in the Texas Medical Center by purchasing a sponsorship or tickets to the gala.

Career and Recovery Resources, Inc. (CRR) hosts the annual Barrier Breaker Luncheon to honor local leaders and acknowledge several of the organization’s star clients who have overcome personal barriers in order to achieve success. The luncheon is the organization’s main fundraiser and all proceeds benefit CRR training and employment services, which include career counseling, job search preparation, services to veterans and to the hearing impaired, intensive case management and training for job placement and retention, and substance abuse treatment, prevention and education.
Luncheon honorees are Marla and James Davis, and Darryl Montgomery. Marla and James Davis have dedicated their lives to empowering the Houston community through their outstanding leadership, advocacy and civic activities. Mr. Davis serves as the president of Gulfgate Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep Dealership. His wife, Marla Davis, is a retired human resource executive known for her calm approach and organizational skills while handling complex issues. This year’s corporate honoree is Darryl Montgomery, the regional president of Wells Fargo of Houston. Montgomery was instrumental in leading the recovery efforts for thousands of Wells Fargo employees and customers affected by Hurricane Katrina.
